Tom Lenz, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACT, Immediate Past Chairman of the Unwanted Horse Coalition, Senior Director of Equine Veterinary Services at Pfizer Animal Health, and a past president of the AAEP. Articles on Lenz's job with Pfizer, global Premarin producer, in relation to his stated position on horse slaughter:
From Lenz's written testimony opposing H.R.503 during the Agriculture Committee hearing on the bill in 2006:
"This bill will negatively impact the health and welfare of horses across the country, and offers no solution to the current problem of what to do with horses that are no longer needed or useful to their owners.
"Second, horses processed at USDA-regulated facilities under the supervision of federal veterinarians are treated with dignity and euthanized humanely."
